Nothing new in book two

There is nothing new here in this second book. The premise of an alien technology being responsible for werewolves and vampires is a good one, but the author fails to deliver a compelling story. In this book, we have two scenes described again and again: werewolves tearing apart normal people, and vampires tearing apart werewolves. If that is your thing, then this is the book for you.
The technology in the book also shows promise. But the very old trope of having some "lab" cook up super weapons and armor, and build immensely complex equipment apparently instantaneously, is tiring to read and gets silly after a while. Why should I care about the heroes at all if they can just invent their way out of every tight spot?
A gigantic unaddressed plot hole in both books is the infection rate for werewolves. Suffice to say that by book three there shouldn't be any normal people in the UK at all.
And, the two "heroes" in this book are rather sociopathic. They had a number of opportunities to clue in law enforcement as to why citizens were being ripped to shreds. They made no attempt to tell anyone until the body count was very high. Instead they shrugged and thought, "they won't believe us, let's wait until so many people die that they will have to believe us." Yikes.
Like many self published books, the premise has promise, but the execution is lacking.

big potential

I liked the first book better. But then with this type of on going story line, i.e. keep writing books/episodes till interest wanes, the first is pretty much always best. This is because a unique idea or unique twist to an old idea is introduced and can carry the book. later installments must rely on further unique ideas or really good character development which this book series lacks. I think the author could improve the character development. I also think using only one bad guy is not the way to go. I really like the idea of the technology augmented vampire. I think a lot of almost stand alone books could work why not open the door? witches fairies ghouls trolls etc. this is fantasy with some science thrown in. I wish the author would go for it. Get rid of the impending doom that never gets solved and take the main character places!!!!

Good secuel, continues the tight action and enjoyable feel, though it has multiple points of view that do make the story slightly jarring, and it does have a rather annoying cliffhanger ending.
