Superb

Written by the same authors of the prize-winning 'Accident and Emergency Radiology: A Survival Guide', this has to be a compulsory purchase for newly trained (and even not-so-newly trained) doctors, including radiology and ED residents. Anyone who has to interpret chest radiographs should have it on their shelf - the same easy to read style has been used and it is just as clear, with excellent diagrams, and a huge number of high quality films to illustrate each point. An indispensable book.

Excellent book for physicians.

I am an ER physician who interprets x-rays at an urgent care. I purchased 3 books on interpretation of chest x-rays, and this book was the best. It was detailed and easy to understand. It provided a good review of pulmonary disease images from pneumonia to solitary pulmonary nodules.

Great Cest Xray interpretation Resource for a PA/NP/MD

This book is a very helpful CXR guide with many high-resolution radiographs. It includes a great introduction to CXR interpretation, and covers intermediate skills of CXR interpretation, such as histoplasmisis nodules/calcifications. I would recommend this product to any student or clinician looking for a quick, but comprehensive guide to CXR interpretation. This book explains all concepts, interpretation skills, and common radiologic signs thoroughly without over-simplifying the information.

About the Author

Jai B. Kim, PE, PhD, is a professor emeritus of civil and environmental engineering at Bucknell University. He was department chairman for 26 years. Also, currently he is a bridge consultant (since 1980) and president of BKLB Structural Consultants, Inc. Recently he was a structural engineer at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). He has been active in bridge research for over 40 years, and was a member of the Transportation Research Board Committee of Bridges and Structures. He also served on the Structural PE Exam Committee of the National Council of Examiners and Surveying (NCEES) for many years. He holds a BSCE and MSCE from Oregon State University and a PhD from University of Maryland.

Robert H. Kim, PE, MSCE, is chief design engineer for BKLB Structural Consultants, Inc. He has extensive experience in the design, research, and construction of highway bridges. He has authored and presented several papers related to bridge engineering. Robert’s three books, Bridge Design for the Civil and Structural Professional Exams, Second Edition; Timber Design, Seventh Edition; and Civil Discipline Specific Review for the FE/EIT Exam are well-read by both students and engineers. In 2013, he is working on a bridge rehabilitation design in Connecticut. He holds a BS from Carnegie Mellon University and a MSCE from Penn State University.

Jonathan R. Eberle, BSCE is engaged in research with focus on the seismic design and analysis of structures at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University as a graduate student. He holds a BSCE from Bucknell University.

Contributors:

Dave M. Mante, MSCE performed a rigorous full-scale laboratory testing on an innovative concrete bridge deck system and he is performing research on prestressed concrete girders at Auburn University.

Eric J. Weaver, PE, M.Eng, performed research on fatigue and life-cycle analysis of steel truss bridges at Lehigh University. He worked for NASA’s space shuttle program and currently he is working as a structural engineer for Westinghouse Electric Co.

Useful but it could be better if..

A good book, useful for P.E or S.E exam. The negative points are: I do not think that worth more than 100$. Also the total number of example are not that much. I wish they put at least 3 more full problems and explained solution more.

Valuable Book That Can Be Used to Prepare for the PE Exam

This book is very valuable;it can be used for preparing for the Professional Engineer Exam. I was able to learn the new bridge design method by following the clear example problems. Also, the separate tables of notations were helpful; I was able to follow the problems quickly. I really liked that whenever notations appeared (in the example problems), the AASHTO specification article numbers were noted. Also, it's a great reference book for both students & practicing engineers. Overall, I rate this valuable book as a "MUST BUY".

Topics in odd engine design

First off, let's set Amazon's record straight. This was written by Leonard Setright and the graphic design was done by Michael Worthington-Williams.
Secondly, this book is in a strange niche between a technical textbook on engine design and a popular treatment. It expects you to know what they mean by bmep and sfc but is content with a quick discussion of torque curves rather than actually having graphs, so from that vantage, any reader will probably be disappointed.
It's also somewhat out of date; many neat things have happened since 1971.
However, the incredibly erudite prose by Setright, and the sheer variety of weird designs he explores, makes this worthwhile. If you've ever thought "hey I bet an engine that has would be really cool" -- he probably has it in here.
What struck me most about this is his presentation of turbocharger technology, the development of free-piston engines (wherein power is derived from the turbo/compressor rather than from the crankshaft of the engine, it serving just as a source of hot air) and the development of turbines from this -- a smooth, gradual evolution from the reciprocating engine to the jet, rather than the revolutionary change we tend to think about when we look at a 747 and a Cessna.
If you can find a copy of this (good luck) it's worth reading.

Excellent read.

What a great comeback for Romano and Albright. I laughed and smiled all the way through. They're still great together and the 5 year wait was certainly worth it. Fortunately, for all the wait, the two MCs hadn't changed in the slightest, and they were as entertaining as ever.

All of the usual suspects are here, Poppy, the Romanos, and of course cousin Joey. His attempts at proposing to Poppy were hilarious. You'll find out more about Dan's past, and one of his exes, who very nearly spells the end for him and Ceasar.

The story is well written and I enjoyed the mystery, as well as the humour. Dan, of course, comes up trumps in his own inimitable and laid back fashion and Ceasar helps things along in his usual kooky way.

If you want a sweet, easy to read but humorous romance, with a bit of a mystery thrown in, this is the series for you. This could be read as a standalone, however, for its full impact I think you really do need to have read the previous couple of books. Very highly recommended. I only hope we won't have to wait another 5 years for the next book in the series.

I'll admit...going into this book, I fully expected to have to DNF it. It's not that I don't love this author...because I do love her writing. What I didn't realize before was that this was the third in the series of a series that I haven't read before featuring this same couple. I figured I'd be completely lost.

THAT WAS NOT THE CASE!

I loved this book even though I hadn't read the two previous books. I never felt lost or confused and I completely and totally fell in love with Caesar and Dan...especially Caesar, who has the POV for the story.

This book...seriously, from the moment I started reading it, I did not want to put it down. It was so good. I love how opposite these two men are from one another. Caesar is seriously uptight. He has Purell in his briefcase and lives by his lists and calendars. Dan is a PI and he's more of a laissez-faire kind of guy.

The book covers about only two days in time, but SO MUCH happens in those two days and every little bit of it throws Caesar's very orderly world into complete disarray. I loved how he kept blaming the bad juju on his heirloom wedding rings and how Dan would calm him down via orgasm. It was so easy to feel their deep connection, even when Caesar is doubting them because of how little he truly knows about Dan's past.

The book was fun and entertaining as well as suspenseful as the reader and everyone else is trying to figure out where the danger is coming from. It was so read-able with absolutely fantastic characters, but there were also moments of heart-melting romance that made my romance-loving heart happy. I'm so happy that I accepted this book for review. NOW, I need to go back and read the first two books because I do truly love these two characters.

About the Author
Eric H. Roth teaches international graduate students the pleasures and perils of academic writing and public speaking in English at the University of Southern California (USC), and holds the title of “Master Lectuerer”. He also consults English language schools on communicative methods to effectively teach English. Roth co-authored Compelling Conversations: Questions and Quotations on Timeless Topics in 2006 to help English language learners increase their English fluency. Recommended by English Teaching Professional magazine, the advanced ESL textbook has been used in over 50 countries in English classrooms and conversation clubs. Easy English Times, an adult literacy newspaper, has published a monthly column, "Instant Conversation Activities," based on the book since 2008. The first specific version for a particular country, Vietnam, was published in 2011. Compelling American Conversations: Questions and Quotations for American English Language Learners , designed to help American immigrants develop both academic vocabulary and strengthen speaking skills in English, came out in 2012. A member of the USC faculty since 2003, Roth is a member of numerous professional organizations including: California Association of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CATESOL); the International Communication Association (ICA); the International Professors Project (IPP); and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). This is the cutest book. The story is so sweet, and the pictures are great. I read this book to my daughter's preschool class and they loved it. Originally, we got it from the library and my daughter enjoyed it so much, I bought it for her to keep.

My 3 year old son received this book as a gift from his aunt who is also a preschool teacher. My son is now 4 years old, and still loves this book. It is often the bedtime story that he chooses. The illustrations are wonderful, and the text is enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Doggone Funny!

I chose this book because the funny title and cover illustration caught my attention. The book is hilarious throughout! Shaggy's got flea problems and can't seem to shake them no matter what he does. He gets by with a little help from his friends who agree to scratch his back - as long as Shaggy "pays" for the favor up front (like finding lost sheep who snicker and hide, or busting tons of suds in a diner). I made sure to point out that sneaky flea in the illustrations to my girls (ages 3.5 and 2). You may not need to do so with older readers. Readers of all ages will love the ending!

Very poorly written and articulated

There are so many mistakes in typing and content, the matter dealt with is so badly explained, unclear and so badly articulated that I believe this book was not reviewed / checked by any editor!
Also strangely the book includes 4 chapters on digital logic without any connections whatsoever to optics, but that simply deal with standard arithmetic and wired logic as one finds in electronic books, except that in this case it is very badly presented and explained. If you don't explain anywhere how these things could be optically implemented, why include that electronics subject in a book supposed to deal with optical computing?
I unfortunately cannot find anything interesting in this book, neither for beginners nor for advanced readers; interested persons will profit much more of the relevant chapters in Goodman's Introduction to Fourier Optics (2nd ed., 1996), a book that is cogently written and well thought out.
For readers who are advanced in this topic, there is the book edited by Yu and Jutamulia, Optical Pattern Recognition, 1998, a book that does show how many complex functions can be optically implemented, each topic being dealt with by an expert and well explained (assuming you master the contents of a book such as Goodman's).
