Mixed feelings

I have mixed feelings about this book. If you are feeling timid about starting your own business and you are looking for some motivation then this is a great book for you. The book is very heavy on motivational stories and tidbits. The authors enthusiasm is readily apparent throughout the book and it is almost infectious. However, when it comes to the nuts and bolts of actually starting a business the book is rather dry.

The book does have some rudimentary advice about marketing and finding new customers, but other specific topics are barely touched on or missing entirely. One of the biggest reasons I would be interested in a book like this would be to get some solid advice about how to price your services, and the best advice in this book is to purchase the authors video. Unforgivable.

Hard to read because it is all spaced out really wired and huge font. Was obvious he took a 40 page book and made it into like 80 pages. 8 pages was just for thank you's.

Great info but can all be found on his your tube channels.

Great guy, great info but skip this and just watch his videos. This book is 90% just inspiration and not good info that's on his YouTube.

Over 2,000 patches and tabs are represented in this remarkably comprehensive guide. From World War I to the present, not only the Army (with a fine selection of pocket and unofficial patches), but also Army Air forces and Aviation, Navy, Marine Corps, Civil Air Patrol, and National Guard are logically organized, illustrated in full color, and identified with checkoff boxes for the collector.
The excellent production values, generous coverage, illustrated essay on patch construction, guide to correct wear, handy table of contents, glossary, World War II organizational chart, and other useful features make this possibly the best patch guide available today, and certainly the most for the modest price. Highly recommended for the collector, WWII buff, and student of military history. (Also available in softcover.)

colorful illustrations of many interesting military insignia

this book was an interesting collection of military patches with many colorful illustrations of various shoulder sleeve insignia.
my main interest was in us army airborne patches, and i was disappointed that more of that type were not shown. i have later learned that several errors were made in the collection.
i would have enjoyed seeing more narrative text to explain what some of the patches represented, when they were worn, and how the authors came to discover the existence of many of the patches shown.
i feel i got my money's worth with the book, but will continue to look for a definitive source about the subject of airborne patches.

Despite title, mostly Army patches

From the title and the description, I was expecting a comprehensive guide to patches from all service branches. In fact, this book is heavily weighted in favor of Army patches. There are no patches for individual ships, submarines, or aviation units (i.e., squadrons). If you are interested in such patches you must look elsewhere. The patches are clearly reproduced, but I would have appreciated more information on each patch: unless you are already familiar with an individual unit, it's difficult to determine when the patches were in use.

About the Author

David Hughes is Assistant Professor at Penn State University (dual appointment to the Department of Entomology and the Department of Biology). His work has mostly focused on the behavior of social insects (wasps and ants) when infected by parasites. He has also collaborated extensively with Fred Thomas on the Hairworms system of cricket manipulation. He has published more than 32 papers in leading international journals including: Nature, TREE, Current Biology, American Naturalist, Biology Letters, Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology. In 2008 he edited a book for OUP with Patrizia D'Ettorre (P. D'Ettorre & D.P. Hughes (2008) Sociobiology of Communication. Oxford University Press).


Trained as experimental and theoretical ecologist, Jacques Brodeur is a full professor at the University of Montreal, Institut de Recherche en Biologie Vegetale, and holds the Canada Research Chair in Biocontrol. For the past 18 years, he has studied the biology and ecology of natural enemies used for biological control of arthropod pests. A long-term goal of his research is to identify the governing ecological principles and mechanisms of multispecies interactions within arthropod communities, and to apply these principles to develop reliable and predictive strategies to best take advantage of biological control agents. He has published a large number of papers on host-parasitoid relationships, including host manipulation.


Frederic Thomas is Directeur de Recherche at CNRS with a well established expertise in the field of host-parasite interactions, and especially host manipulation. He is leading a team entitled "Parasitically modified organisms". He has published more than 140 articles in international peer reviewed journals (1995-present), including Nature, Evolution, Trends in Ecology and Evolution, Ecology Letters, Ecology, American Naturalist, Proceedings of the Royal Society, Plos pathogen, Proteomics and also edited five books (two at Oxford University Press).
