Nice arrangements and excellent memories

When I was young, there was a piano in the house (and several other instruments, but I did piano). Dad was an amateur musician, with lots of professional connections. Some big names visited the house, and there always seemed to be music going on. One of the sources that Dad enjoyed, and which was used as source material by guests at Christmas time, was Henry A. Simon's _A_Treasury_of_Christmas_Songs_and_Carols_. The echoes of superb performances of these pieces by gifted people made me want, in my stumbling way, to do half as well.
Dad and Mom still have the book. I found a used copy, bought it, and am enjoying it very, very much. The arrangements are faithful to my memories, still harmonious and fun. They are not so difficult that a rank amateur such as myself cannot learn them.
Thank you, Amazon, for making it possible for me to enjoy the songs Dad, his guests, and I used to play, and for this to happen without Dad having to give up his copy. We can play the music to each other over the phone and have a grand time.

A childhood treasure, rediscovered!

When I was a child, my school library had the hardcover copy of this book, and my sister and I checked it out EVERY year for over Christmas vacation. It is such a fabulous book, and finding out that it is (perhaps) available again is so wonderful. The book has carols from all over the world, and includes the sheet music, and short histories of many of the pieces. A fanatastic resource for anyone who loves Christmas music.

Confidence for Growth, not Merely Gain - Internal Affiliate Hyperlinks the only flaw

Beau Norton presents a short, practical course initially termed "Extreme Confidence", only to reveal an aspect that I particularly appreciated: extreme confidence is actually self-love and inner peace of mind, not aggressive egoism, manipulation, over bearing drive toward material achievements that is often the substance of many "self-motivational" texts.

Making a distinction between two types of confidence, Norton succinctly explains each with concrete exercises. I cannot attest to the effectiveness of the recent wave of "brain entertrainment", but one can always use the more traditional forms of relaxation and affirmations. However, the open-body meditation technique Norton advises is one I do use.

Norton goes on dealing with goal setting, overcoming fears (a very interesting check point list approach), and three daily ego boosting habits long recognized for their effectiveness. All in all, quite an excellent eBooklet with one minor knock on the head: there are a few internal affiliate hyperlinks to external websites (including one to another eBooklet of his). I frown on this practice, preferring any such links to be in a separate, isolated section at the conclusion of the text if felt needed... and not within the main body, especially affiliated links.

I had only two criticisms about this book.

First is the title. It is too long, too keyword packed and too broad.
The second is that the book's content reflects the title completely. It IS a comprehensive guide for increasing self-esteem and confidence. It EXPLAINS how to be confident, overcome fear and anxiety, increase self-esteem, and achieve success in everything you do.
So why the criticism? Because I think it's a much too broad scope for such a small book. It brushes all of those subjects, but doesn't go deeply into each one. It's a bit unfocused.

But that's as far as my criticism go.
The rest is just superb. Good quality, I spotted no formatting or grammar issues.
It's a real book written by a real person, not some junk hastily composed by a ghostwriter. It's a genuine work of the successful individual.
Beau Norton talks about his own experiences with transparency and integrity.

The book is full of substance. I also experienced the life transformation during a past couple of years, so I can honestly testify that I found many of his experiences and advice compatible with that what works for me.
This book is especially good in numerating the various techniques for developing confidence and building your personal success. I didn't count them, but there are at least dozen of them and they are ALL in accordance with my experience, something quite rare in the gurus' books.
I'm a firm believer that only you can build your success, so it's is very important to find a range of techniques on which you can compose your own successful strategy, which will work for YOU. And "Extreme Confidence" delivers them in abundance.

I've highlighted over 30 fragments. I found a few quotes I'll be using in my writing and I'll attribute them to Beau.
I felt a special bond with the author while reading this book. I was nodding all the time. I found just a few tips which didn't work for me, like setting specific goals, but they evidently worked for him and are the part of many successful people's philosophy. The rest of the book could have been written by me, so similar are our paths.

I recommend this book as an interesting and uplifting read if nothing else. I am a bit unfocused for a confidence building alone, but it's a great resource for studying success.

Wow! An amazing 2nd installment of Virgin River

A former Marine, John "Preacher" Middleton has found peace in Virgin River, California. Working as a cook in his best friend's bar, Preacher does what he loves most; he cooks. When closing up one night, Preacher is surprised to see a soaked woman carrying a child in. Virgin River is a small town and strangers are few and far between. Never feeling strong emotion for any woman, Preacher is somewhat shocked by his urge to protect Paige Lassiter and her son, Christopher.

Paige Lassiter is on the run. Leaving after almost getting beaten to death by her husband, Paige intends to change her identity to protect herself and her son. Hoping to find somewhere to stay the night, Paige ends up on the road that leads to Virgin River. With the weather so bad that she can hardly see, Paige can do nothing more than take the kindness of a stranger. John Middleton looks like he's as far from a guardian angel as a man can get. Already leery of men, Paige accepts his offer to stay the night but insists on leaving in the morning.

This is an amazing story of love and courage. While content in his life, Preacher never expected to have feelings as intense as the ones he has for Paige and Chris. Vowing to protect them both, Preacher is a solid presence that Paige so desperately needs. Paige soon finds herself falling for Preacher. While they are both sure of their feelings, they each have doubts that the other will receive those feelings well. Preacher doesn't want to run Paige off by telling her how he feels. Paige doesn't want to have to leave because Preacher doesn't feel the same way she does. Fortunately the misunderstanding does not dominate the book. There are a lot of returning secondary characters that will make you laugh and cry. Robyn Carr has a unique gift of bringing the reader right into the pages and making them want to stay.

The Bonding of One Cute Kid and One Lonely Ex-Marine

In this second book in the Virgin River series, Preacher, (John Middleton) who works as a cook at Jim Sheridan's bar and grill, comes in contact with a young mother, Paige Lassiter, and her young son who are fleeing an abusive relationship. Preacher is a withdrawn, quiet person. But beautiful Paige and her endearing child find a place in ex-marine Preacher's heart.

I am an A-Level Student and I actually came across this textbook a year earlier-my teacher had a copy and I would use it during class frequently. To say that it helped would be an understatement. It was much better than the textbook we were required to buy for the course. Even the layout made it so easy to use-the AS part of it was very helpful and so far the A2 part is also very good. Having it is very useful.

I am extremely pleased with that book!! I wasn't able to study from any site or other books becoz they didn't have this much of information. But honestly when I bought that book and tried it along with the CD provided with it .. It's simply superior!! I was afraid to purchase it (hesitated) but seriously it's so adequate to study from. The book is perfectly organized and detailed enough that you won't need to refer to other resources!

Serves best as a review guide

I teach this class as a high school alternative to AP and the CIE website recommends this course book as a textbook. I can say without a doubt, this is not a textbook replacement. The book does a great job of hitting all the topics that are covered in the AICE syllabus but it simply cannot stand alone as a textbook. My main issue with this book is that it tends to gloss over the topics and doesn't go in too much depth. Students need more practice and examples than this book tends to give. As an educator, I can definitely recommend this book as a review before the exam or as a supplemental book. As a supplement, this book is great, as a replacement for a textbook, I don't recommend it. The CD that comes with this book provides great animations and supplemental problems students can work on. Do not expect a ton of work for students, but the few problems provided do a decent job as examples and review problems. If you are a student looking for a review book, I can recommend this book, but be forewarned that it is a lengthy book and does include both AS material and A material. If you are a teacher, plan to use this as an additional resource to teach the class and not as a replacement for a good textbook.
