A Great Study of THE GAP THEORY and why a disclosure of ancient life on Mars will distress Christians who aren't prepared.

Having just recently completed a book on the subject of Mars, I stumbled across Allan Cornford from his Facebook page. I enjoyed his comments and detected he was talking a lot about Mars. I became intrigued by the depth of his understanding, and frankly, he seemed to be tracking closely to my own thinking. So I bought the book.
I was delighted. The book is a study of Genesis and the so called Gap Theory. Allan explains the key words used in the Genesis account (the Hebrew words that is) with the aid of the Strong's Lexicon. Sounds boring but only if you aren't familiar with how much insight one can gain from looking at the original meaning of the Hebrew. This is especially so in the first few chapters of Genesis.
Allan's thesis is that we are soon likely to have disclosed to us that artifacts exist on Mars that demonstrate intelligence once resided there. His intention is to forewarn bible believers who advocate a young earth theory of origins (that the world is only 6,000 years old) they will have no means to interpret these disclosures that reconciles them to the Bible. Hence, they may be devastated by this disclosure.
His remedy is to teach what most dispensational bible scholars have taught for 150 years... That Genesis 1:2 isn't teaching us about the creation of the earth... But about its recreation. CI Schofield taught this is his reference ?Bible. GH Pember taught this in Earths Earliest Ages. Finis Dake taught this in Another Time, Another Place, Another Man... And so do many others.
Allan does a fine job of walking the bible student through the issues without berating the other view and without overdoing the grammatical studies that make some books on the subject tough sledding.
My only criticism of Allan's effort is that he doesn't emphasize the notion of Rahab early in his book to key the reader to the direction he is heading. Still, the book is a solid one targeting readers who like bible studies. It is not likely to be helpful to those outside the fold that won't respect Strong's word studies and don't get why knowing the original meaning of the Hebrew words in the bible makes such an enormous difference in exegeting the bible correctly.

If you have eyes to see then you will find revelations every Believer needs for their arsenal against the spiritual enemy that seeks to destroy us with deceptions that are customized toward our very desires.

It's not always comfortable to receive the truth but it will set you free.

This book is written with great clarity and a purpose that propels forward with passion.

Awe inspiring truth

This book has answered some of the questions I've struggled with for a long time. It would certainly seem that a conspiracy has been going on to keep Christians ignorant of certain things. I never knew that the things this author writes about were in the Bible, and although some of it is a bit controversial, it is good teaching for this day and age. Highly recommended.

Grade 6 Up–This reproduction of a classic goes back to the heyday of comics, and it's full of complex characters, plot twists, and classic storytelling. While this comic never obtained the status of some of the publisher's series like Batman, it is no doubt excellent in every way and will keep the interest of any comic-book readers who give it a try. Typical of DC comics, the illustrations are dark and full of energy, perfectly complementing the text. *Starred Review* Balk at acquiring DC's $50-per-tome series reprinting all of The Spirit because, well, you've just never read the strip? Then this paperback showcasing the strip's essence in 22 vintage stories is your book. The earliest 2, "The Origin of the Spirit" (1940) and "Silk Satin" (1941), respectively introducing the hero and a recurring character, aren't as visually adventurous as Eisner's work after his World War II hiatus from The Spirit. Still, they already demonstrate two of Eisner's strengths in the skewed perspective and the bold, anti-naturalistic color juxtapositions of virtually every panel. In the 20 postwar stories, playing with perspective is subordinated to point of view, and expressionistic lighting justifies the clashing hues. If the changes dissipate the low-rent-cubist elan of the early stories, Eisner compensates with special effects--panels in monochrome and dichrome, special styles of panel framing, visually bracketing one stream of action within another, photo backdrops--and seldom uses any one device throughout the story. Not as easy to see but no less virtuosic than the artwork is The Spirit's complex tone as a piece of pop art that indulges and satirizes the improbabilities of crime comics but doesn't countenance any carping about the heroic and social virtues its protagonist exemplifies. About the Author
Will Eisner is one of the most important creators to have worked in the comics medium. Not only did he innovate the entire newspaper strip format with The Spirit, but in A Contract With God, a book-length comic detailing life in a Jewish tenement, he is also credited with publishing the first "graphic novel" (indeed, Eisner himself coined the term). Brilliantly creative until his death in 2005, Eisner's shadow still looms large over the modern comics industry, and may it ever remain so!

Love Will Eisner, Love the Spirit, but.....

I enjoyed this book collection of some of the best Spirit strips...except for....somebody had taken scissors and cut panels out in various places. I know I bought this used in "good" shape and the clipped panels didn't take much away from the story but dang! Why did somebody ruin a great book.

You can see the skill level in drawing and inking develop through the years plus the influence of "political correctness" as the Spirit's sidekick early on was a very stylized "StepandFetchet" with giant red lips and pretty horrible English. Later issues the sidekick is white and buck toothed....and still obnoxious. The character names remind me of Al Capp's variety used in the "Lil' Abner" strips....Sand Sarief for example.

If you enjoy comics, graphic novels (ala Frank Miller, Robert Kirkman) then check out the "daddy" of them all..the Spirit.

The Spirit is a classic in American comics. The series are being republished in very expensive volumes, but these are only for fans. This is a great one for starters - a good pick of the best Spiritstories. Only one minor minus here - the stories are printed on cheap paper. Hmm. Still a great collection for anyone who's unknown to the spirit.

The only reason I'm holding one star back is because I'm old. The art in these stories is so nuanced and rich that it should have been presented larger than standard comic book size. But that's the only bone I have to pick with this volume. Younger readers who don't have to squint to read this will be well rewarded.

And with a price like this, there's really no excuse not to treat yourself.

Will Eisner may not have invented the comic book, but he was one of the people who made them good. His talent and influence helped transform the medium from kids' throwaway entertainment to literature. "The Spirit" is Eisner at the height of his powers, and this collection is the best of the best. The phrase "no collection should be without it" has become watered-down through overuse, but in this case it is no less than the truth. If you're at all interested in comic books, this is where you start.

A Bit Bias

It was a good read but because he is the brother he is either in total denial, or still protecting the past and probably because there the family is still around. Definitely an interesting read but I believe a bit bias from a brothers point of view

somewhat disappointed

I bought this book because it seemed interesting and I liked the movie "American Gangster". The story is interesting, but the book was disappointing. It is rambling and not that well-written. The story romanticizes Pablo Escobar emphasizing what he did for Colombia's poor and downplays the fact that he was a ruthless drug trafficker whom people feared. But then again, it is written by his brother.
